WEEK 74 - POST 5
this is a weekend post - but hey why not - I'm working this weekend!
I basically worked half the day even though it was nice out and I saw all these people who were enjoying themselves outside.
I have an event tomorrow that I have to attend for my part-time job. I went to pick-up and drop-off some booth items for this and had a frustrating time:
- couldn't find my booth items in the shared space (had seen an email that mentioned some things had been moved but assumed our stuff wasn't moved because we weren't notified directly - you would assume this type of courtesy would have happened). I finally found two of the three items.
- when I emailed regarding the third, neither person who had the item last (mid-October) knew where it was and I asked for them to figure it out because if it wasn't at the shared space, it must be at the last event we were at and we'd have to track it down. (ugh).
- went to drop off my two items at this event and two volunteers that I talked to had no idea how to help me and weren't that helpful in trying to find a solution for me. Finally I found a third that did help. (This event is not well organized - very messed up regarding drop off, set up, parking, pick up, etc. which makes me question why I'm participating)
Afterwards I picked up the newsletter we had worked on with a partner. I had left this task with the new staff (of partner) and with our contract person. At first glace it looked good.
At second glance - two articles (and the photos that were submitted with them) had not been included in the edition and a title for one of my photos (that this new staff person wrote without even getting approval from me) misidentified something (which now makes our new program look incompetent!)
This person (new staff) works four part-time jobs and now she's thinking of applying for an Exec Dir position for an organization where she should NOT be misidentifying this exact thing (and she did the same last year - misidentifying something and sending it out on social media under the name of a local NGO).
I am really shocked that she is continually being hired (but not really, as it's a friend of hers who continually hires her.)
Tomorrow I may work three or five hours. I'm leaning towards just three hours as I spent a total of six hours today working!
I also need to continue work on the paperwork. Did not get done this week but I have almost all the files I need now so fingers crossed it gets done this week!!!
Frustrations:
- What to do with incompetent people who are in "leadership" roles?
- How to be understanding of volunteers who are there but may not be helpful or knowledgeable
- How to handle the stresses of having to manage my projects and the projects I delegate also (really, does it help at all to have a contract person if everything she does has to be micromanaged?)
